Marija Zivic was born on the 16th August 1965 in Slavonski Brod, Croatia. She studied mechanical engineering in Slavonski Brod and obtained her degree in mechanical engineering in June 1989. In March 1990 she was employed at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Slavonski Brod, J.J. Strossmayer University of Osijek, as an assistant of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics at the Chair for Energetics.

She received an MSc degree in 1995 and a PhD degree in 2001 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb. Her PhD thesis was titled: Influence of Natural Convection in the Phase Change Processes. She worked as an assistant lecturer of Thermodynamics from 2004 to 2008, as an associate professor of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics from 2008 to present.

She is a senior researcher of the national scientific project „Numerical modeling of convection-diffusion phase change problems". She published more than 30 papers in journals and proceedings.

From 2009 she is a vice-dean for science at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Slavonski Brod. She is a member of Croatian Society of Mechanics and Croatian Metrology Society. She speaks English. She is married and she has got two sons.
